with a vision to create, disseminate and translate knowledge in science, engineering and allied disciplines that will best serve the society, and a mission to pursue excellence in education, research, and innovation, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, established in 1959. IIT-K is one of the leading institutions established by the Government of India. The aim of the Institute is to provide consequential education, conduct original research of the highest standard and provide leadership in tech-innovation.
Under the guidance of economist John Kenneth Galbraith, IIT Kanpur was the first institute in India to offer Computer science education. The earliest computer courses were started at IIT Kanpur in August 1963 on an IBM 1620 system.

Accommodation for students…
The institute provides accommodation inside the campus itself. The Halls Of Residence at IIT Kanpur provides comfortable accommodation and are located close to the academic area. One can find that they are much more than a place to eat and sleep, they have several sports and recreational facilities as well. Each Hall enjoys lifelong loyalty from its past residents.
Also, the Halls of residence provide great tasting nutritious food. Besides, there are many eateries offering a variety of cuisines, that are spread all over the campus.

College Fest…
College fests are a great source of refreshment to all college students. So not forgetting about them, there are two types of fests in IIT Kanpur as- inter-college and in-house fests.
Inter-college fests-
Inter-college fest refers to an annual cultural festival of a particular college where various different colleges participate.
IIT Kanpur has 3 different types of inter-college fest namely-
Antaragni is the Annual cultural festival of IIT Kanpur, held in the month of October. It is a four-day-long festival, attracting participation from over 200 colleges of India every year. it includes professional shows, fashion shows, Indian folk dances competitions, performances by amateur rock bands, musicians, poets, and a lot of other events. The festival sees an annual footfall of more than 1 lakh annually, making it one of the biggest and most popular college festivals of Asia.
Techkriti is an annual inter-collegiate technical and entrepreneurship festival of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Techkriti is traditionally held in the month of March. The college fest includes tech-related events as well as workshops.
Udghosh is an annual inter-collegiate sports meet of Indian Institute of Technology- Kanpur. It is traditionally held in the month of September. It includes various indoor and outdoor sports competitions.

The Campus provides all the facilities in itself from clothing to eateries and medical to postal services.
Food hubs- The Halls of residence provide great tasting nutritious food both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
Besides, there are many eateries offering a variety of cuisines, that are spread all over the campus such as- Domino’s, Cafe Coffee Day, eateries @ M.T. & O.E.T. Some amazing food hubs outside but near the campus include Kerala cafe, Grand CT’s restaurant’s chain, etc.

Travel and transport-Travel and transport are really convenient inside as well as outside the campus. You can use your bicycles to commute within the campus. Rides can be booked like Ola or from a local taxi or auto drivers for traveling outside the campus. You can book your rides on Ola app Or from the local drivers on the Campus Haat app.
Malls and market places- The IIT campus consists of markets like old shop C, new Shop C & M.T. which provide all types of services at one place within the campus. The Rave @moti Mall in Rawatpur is nearest to IIT-K.
